The Beginning of an Amazing Weekend!!!

I'M STILL ALIVE!!!!!!  Yes that is right I survived my Tough Mudder!!!!  I've gotta say it was probably the most amazing thing that I have ever done in my life and I do have a pretty amazing life!

Before I tell you about my Tough Mudder adventure, let me first tell you about how my amazing weekend began, because it was pretty cool too!

So, my weekend began Friday evening. I took a flight from Charlotte to Newark NJ where my good friend and fellow Tough Mudder Meg Kep picked me up and took me into “the city.” Yep that’s right! New York City!!!!!! I have never been to the NYC before so I was pretty excited. Let me tell you the city is beautiful at night!!! So we met up with Sinead Halpin, Holly Payne, British Ben and a few other friends for a night out. Besides the fact that I lost my phone for about 12 hrs that night, we had a pretty awesome time.

So on Saturday since we were already in the city Meg and I went and grabbed a bagel and coffee (or tea in my case). OMG the bagels in NYC are absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!! We then went to what felt like the opposite end of the island to go see the WTC (World Trade Center) or where it used to be. Where the two towers stood there is a beautiful memorial of 2 square, below ground waterfalls that disappear into the earth. Around the edges of the waterfalls are all of the names of those who perished in the two towers, on the planes and in the pentagon. Between and in front of the two waterfalls is another building being built that replicates a falling tower. It was pretty spectacular to see.  On one of the original buildings beside the memorial site there is beautiful carved mural of the 9/11 tragedy.

We also went into the WTC museum that holds artifacts, pictures, letters , videos, stories, etc. from 9/11. Sitting here looking back at all the things I saw I can’t even think of the words to describe it. It was hard enough for me just standing there reading and seeing what people went through. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what it would have been like that day, week, month or the many years after for the people that were there or for the ones that lost a loved one(s).  All I can say is that it was completely remarkable and I will never forget it.

Next we went back to Meg’s house in little Frenchtown, NJ and got ready for our big day on Sunday. Yep you got it, our Tough Mudder was only one sleep away!!!!! I still had no idea what I (or meg) had gotten myself into....

Stay tuned for my Tough Mudder experience......
